The 4-H Program Assistant for Outdoor Programs assists with youth programs in the areas of horses, livestock and shooting sports in Sevier County. This position is funded for 15 hours per week, with the potential for additional hours in future years as program needs increase. Hours are flexible and will include some evening and weekend work. Position will begin 5/1/18.

  • Assist 4-H faculty in outdoor programs including livestock, horse, and shooting sports.
  • Assist in developing and organizing clinics, workshops, camps and other educational programs.
  • Assist in program support: help organize clubs, work with 4-H advisory boards, and assist with volunteer and youth leader training.
  • In-state travel to enhance 4-H member learning, including transporting 4-H youth and supplies to events.
  • Develop positive relationships with 4-H youth and adults.  
  • Other duties as assigned by the County Extension Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful candidates must have a valid driver’s license, be willing to use personal and/or county vehicle for work and pass a background check. (Note: personal vehicle use will be reimbursed by Sevier County at approved county mileage rates and under approval of the County Extension Director.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of 4-H program.
  • Experience working with livestock, including horses.
  • Hunter education certification

Perform simple addition and subtraction, reading and copying of figures, or counting and recording.
Expression of a level to communicate verbally with clients/customers and others to obtain and provide basic information. Able to communicate by telephone. Capable of explaining routine polices and of properly referring more complex cases.
Comprehension and expression of a level to record fairly uncomplicated information frequently such as filling in report forms, logging entries and taking telephone messages.
Moderate travel required – ability to travel frequently (i.e., weekly-monthly) for activities such as home visits, collateral contacts, transport of clients to appointments, delivering mail, auditing records, inspecting facilities, or other activities requiring frequent travel under normal conditions.
Some in-state travel to enhance 4-H member learning.
