The USU Tooele Campus seeks a qualified Math Tutor. The successful applicant will serve primarily as a tutor for students taking general Algebra and Statistics courses MATH 0950, 0995, 1050, and/or STATE 1040, 1045, with potential for trigonometry, calculus, and related courses. Exact hours will be assigned by the supervisor based on courses taught during the semester, but the schedule must include evenings. 

  • Spring 2019 semester, January 7-May 1

 

  1. Serve as a Math Tutor for students taking general Algebra and Statistics courses MATH 0950, 0995, 1050, and/or STATS 1040, 1045.
  2. Attend math tutor sessions in person and online.
  3. Provide help with homework, review exams, and/or explain concepts recently discussed in classes.
  1. Must be at least 18 years of age. 
  2. Must be willing to attend training on online tutoring system.
  3. Ability to work independently.
  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  5. Demonstrates personal integrity.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively.
  7. Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  8. Proficient in College Algebra, including MATH 1050 or higher  (or equivalent).
  9. Proficient in Statistics, including STATS 1040 and/or 1045 or higher (or equivalant).
  10. Preference will be given to those who have successfully completed the following or their respective equivalents:
  • MATH 1050 (College Algebra)
  • MATH 1060 (Trigonometry)
  • MATH 1210 and/or 1220 (Calculus)
  • STATS 1040 and/or 1045 (Statistics)
  • STATS 2300 (Business Statistics)

Inside
Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in or from standardized situations
Perform ordinary arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric procedures in standard, practical applications.
Expression of a level to communicate verbally with clients/customers and others to obtain and provide basic information. Able to communicate by telephone. Capable of explaining routine polices and of properly referring more complex cases.
Comprehension and expression of a level to record fairly uncomplicated information frequently such as filling in report forms, logging entries and taking telephone messages.
No travel required.
